Former India skipper Virat Kohli is set to embark on what could be the most crucial three months in his ODI career.

India have two major tournaments lined up in the coming weeks: the Asia Cup 2023, starting August 30, and the World Cup 2023, which will get underway on October 5. Virat Kohli won the 2011 World Cup as a youngster, but now he would like to cement his legacy by playing a big role as a senior player and take India to the title once again.

Virat Kohli needs 102 more runs to break Sachin Tendulkar’s massive world record

Before that, he will feature in the Asia Cup 2023 in Sri Lanka, where he could potentially play 6 matches in the tournament if India reaches the final. In the Asia Cup, the 34-year-old superstar batsman is all but certain to break one of the biggest records of Sachin Tendulkar in ODI cricket.

In the Asia Cup, Virat Kohli could surpass Sachin Tendulkar’s record to become the fastest batsman to 13,000 ODI runs. For that, he needs only 102 more runs in his next 55 innings!

Tendulkar completed 13,000 ODI runs in 321 ODI innings, while Virat Kohli already has amassed 12898 runs in 265 ODI innings. This means that Kohli have plenty of time – 55 innings – to break Tendulkar’s record.

Fastest batsmen to score 13,000 runs in ODIs so far:

Sachin Tendulkar – 321 innings
Ricky Ponting – 341 innings
Kumar Sangakkara – 363 innings
Sanath Jayasuriya – 416 innings.

Indian fans would love to see Virat Kohli break Tendulkar’s record not only in the Asia Cup but in the first match of the tournament, scoring a big century against arch-rivals Pakistan on September 2 in Kandy. The Delhi-born already holds the record for being the fastest to 8000, 9000, 10,000, 11,000, and 12,000 ODI runs.

The Indian team completed their 6-day training, fitness, and preparatory camp in Alur in Bangalore and are set to fly for Sri Lanka.
