AUS vs ENG: Watch: Mitchell Marsh Hits 115-Metre Six At The MCG

Australia recorded their highest-ever first innings total in men’s ODI at the MCG as they ransacked 355/5 on Tuesday against world champions England and hammered Jos Buttler’s side by a whopping 221 runs (DLS) in a rain-affected game.

David Warner and Travis Head recorded the highest stand for any wicket in ODIs at the MCG – 369 runs in 38.1 overs. It is seldom that David Warner gets under shadowed in white-ball cricket, but today it happened as it was his partner, Travis Head, who was the aggressor. Head scored 152 runs off 130 balls, hitting 16 fours and 4 sixes, while Warner scored 106 runs off 102 balls with the help of 8 fours and 2 sixes.

Even though Australia lost wickets in a bunch toward the end of their innings, the gigantic opening stand between Warner and Head ensured they finished with a big total of 355/5 in the game which was reduced to 48 overs due to rain.

During the Aussie innings, Mitchell Marsh smashed pacer Olly Stone for a magnificent 115-meter sixer! Yes – 115. Marsh played a quickfire cameo of 30 runs off 16 balls, which included a massive six to Stone.

The seamer bowled a slow-ish ball, at 118 KPH, at back of a length. The ball didn’t rise enough on Marsh, who absolutely clobbered the ball with his almighty pull. The broadcaster tracked the ball to go a distance of 115 meters!

Chasing the DLS adjusted target of 364, England never got going and eventually were bowled out for only 142 with Adam Zampa picking up a 4-wicket haul, and Australia completed a 3-0 whitewash of the England side. Travis Head was named the Player of the Match and Warner the Player of the Series.

“It’s been fantastic, all three games bowlers did their job and the batters did theirs. This might just be the best ODI that I’ve been part of. The opening partnership was great, it was a tricky wicket early on and the other blokes then having a hit later on. Everything was perfect. The way he (Head) has stepped into Finchy’s shoes, it looks good. It shows we have good depth. Abbott also did a fair job,” said Australia captain Pat Cummins, for whom this was the first series in charge after taking over from Aaron Finch.
