Ireland’s Harry Tector has got some limelight recently after the ICC announced its updated ranking for the ODI men’s batters. This was as much because he has jumped to the number 4 spot in the ODI batsman ranking as much about being sandwiched between India’s two greatest ODI batters of this generation: Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

Harry Tector, a 24-year-old Irish batter, has attracted plenty of eyeballs recently. Harry Tector has moved up three places in the ICC ODI ranking for the batsmen and now sits on the fourth spot, just above Rohit Sharma and just below Virat Kohli. In the latest ICC ranking for ODI men’s batters, Pakistan star Babar Azam continues to remain at the top, followed by the Indian duo of Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli. Harry Tector and Rohit Sharma take the 4th and 5th spots respectively.

This is his best ICC ranking Tector’s impressive career so far. His improved ranking comes on the back of a brilliant knock of 138 runs against Afghanistan in the 1st ODI in Sharjah. However, Ireland still lost the match by 35 runs in the chase of 311.

Just 24 years of age, Harry Tector is making the right noises in international cricket. After 45 ODI matches, having made his ODI debut in 2020, Tector averages a terrific 49.91, just a shade under the perfect average of 50, a benchmark that is set to define the finest of any generation.

In 41 ODI knocks, Tector has racked up 5 centuries and 11 half-centuries – that is 16 fifty-plus scores.

Harry Tector was destined for cricketing success, having been born in the family of former Ireland under-19 World Cup captains Jack and Tim.

Back in 2021, his knock of 79 off 68 balls helped Ireland record their first-ever ODI win over South Africa. He then notched up three half-centuries in an ODI series win in West Indies in 2022. Then came a consistent patch where he raised 7 fifty-plus scores in 9 innings, including two hundreds against New Zealand.
