In a sensational showdown at the Narendra Modi Stadium, India emerged victorious over arch-rivals Pakistan by seven wickets. This scintillating clash was nothing short of a spectacle, as India continued their historic dominance over Pakistan in World Cup encounters. While the match saw exemplary performances from the Indian side, the Pakistani batting lineup faltered, leading to some strong opinions from former Pakistani international Rashid Latif.
The cricketing rivalry between India and Pakistan is legendary, marked by intense competition and fervent fan support. Each encounter between these two nations is eagerly anticipated. But the 50-overs World Cup, a pinnacle of international cricket, adds even more pressure to an already high-stakes battle.
On this particular day, the atmosphere at the Narendra Modi Stadium was electric. The crowd was pulsating with excitement. The players were well aware of the significance of the match. It was Pakistan’s chance to break the jinx, but India had different plans.
Pakistan’s innings started on a hopeful note, but things took a downturn as they faced the disciplined Indian bowlers. The batting lineup, which was expected to showcase resilience and flair, crumbled under the pressure. Their score of 191 in the 43rd over was far from par in a World Cup match.
Babar Azam And Muhammad Rizwan Are Cowards: Rashid Latif

Key players like Babar Azam and Muhammad Rizwan, who are usually at the forefront of Pakistan’s batting prowess, had a forgettable day. The Indian bowlers, led by a magnificent performance from Kuldeep Yadav, made it extremely challenging for the Pakistani batsmen to get going. The spin duo of Kuldeep and Ravindra Jadeja baffled the opposition with their skills.
In contrast, India’s chase was a masterclass in controlled aggression. Even after losing the wickets of Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma, the Indian team displayed unwavering intent and confidence. Their approach to the chase was a stark contrast to Pakistan’s timid batting display.
Their ability to read and play spin with finesse was evident, something that Rashid Latif pointed out in his post-match analysis.
Former Pakistani international Rashid Latif did not hold back in his criticism of Pakistan’s performance. He expressed his frustration with the batsmen’s overreliance on the sweep shot against spin, labelling them as cowards. Latif’s opinion was clear: he believed that sweeping was a sign of fear and timidity against the bowlers.
He specifically mentioned Kuldeep Yadav, emphasizing that not a single Pakistan batsman could read his variations. According to Latif, the inability to tackle Kuldeep’s spin could result in him becoming the leading wicket-taker of the tournament if not rested in upcoming matches.
Rashid Latif said “Look at the way Shreyas Iyer and Rohit Sharma play spin. Khuda ke liye (For god sake) use your feet, you have got two. One hit down the ground, Kuldeep and Jadeja would have easily given them five singles in one over. But instead, we were trying to sweep against them. There were two close calls as well. Call me old school but in my opinion those batters who just sweep against spin in are cowards. They are playing sweep shots because they are scared of the bowlers. Against Kuldeep, we looked timid, we were trying to just play out his ten overs. Not a single Pakistan batsman was able to pick Kuldeep, and I think if he is not rested in a few matches, Kuldeep will end up being the leading wicket-taker of the tournament.”
Latif’s candid analysis has sparked a debate among cricket enthusiasts. While some may disagree with his choice of words, it’s undeniable that Pakistan’s performance on that day left much to be desired. The question remains: was the sweep shot a manifestation of fear, or was it a tactical error in reading the spin?
