It won’t be wrong to say that over the last few years, Babar Azam has become the batting mainstay of the Pakistan cricket team. On the other hand, Indian skipper Virat Kohli is regarded as the modern-day batting legend. While the Indian skipper has been playing for over a decade now, Azam has risen up to become Pakistan’s premier batsman in the last four to five years.

Talking about Babar Azam, currently, he has been maintaining the average of 50 in both ODIs and T20Is with 12 centuries and 40.93. Even in the longest format of the game, Azam has amassed over 2000 runs at an average of 44.29.

All thanks to his brilliant performances with the bat, he was made the skipper of the national team across all three formats of the game.

Meanwhile, Azam has beaten the Indian skipper in a recent poll conducted by the ICC on their official Twitter handle. In the poll, ICC asked who among Virat Kohli, Joe Root, Kane Williamson, and Babar Azam himself possed the best cover drive in the game of cricket. All these four batsmen are regarded as the modern greats and are the skippers of their respective national sides.

Interestingly, Babar won the contest with a 46 % vote leaving the other three batsmen behind. The poll was a closely fought one as Babar and Virat toppled each other quite a few times. However, Azam edged Kohli by a margin of 0.1%. Kohli had 45.9 % votes in his favor. Kane and Joe Root both of the batsmen didn’t get many votes.
