The ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) has attracted plenty of eyeballs so far in just its first week because of the exciting cricket action that has happened. The biggest talking point in the BBL so far was Sydney Thunders getting all out for only 15 runs against Adelaide Strikers, and Michael Neser’s hat-trick.
Another quite a fascinating on-field display – not by any player though – was when a bail automatically fell off after Melbourne Renegades batsman Nic Maddinson had played his shot. The left-hander was initially given out as a hit-wicket, but videos further revealed that Maddinson hadn’t stepped on the stumps, but instead the bail had fallen off without anyone touching it!
During the 9th over of Melbourne Renegades’ innings against Brisbane Heat, Maddinson played a pull shot, rocking on the back foot to a short delivery from Steketee. As Maddinson completed his shot and set off for a run, the leg bail fell which was noticed by everyone.
Everyone thought Maddinson had stepped on the stumps and was declared hit-wicket out.

The batter even started walking toward the dressing room with a befuddled look.
However, soon the replays showed that Maddinson didn’t touch the stumps, and the bail had fallen without anyone’s involvement. Justifiably, the batter was recalled. The commentators were left shocked and expressed amazement at this incident.
This weird and unusual incident went viral on social media. Seems like there must have been fast wind around and when Maddinson turned to play his pull shot, he would have thrusted more air pressure toward the stumps making the baill dislodge.

What on earth???
Looks like the wind’s knocked the bail off! Maddinson stays safe 😅@KFCAustralia #BucketMoment #BBL12 pic.twitter.com/sboxGvIewA
