BAN vs IND: Shreyas Iyer Got Bowled But The Bails Didn’t Fall

India batsman Shreyas Iyer had a lucky day out on Wednesday on Day 1 of the first Test against Bangladesh in Chattogram. Apart from being dropped in the deep by Ebadot Hossain, Iyer also had the slice of luck when the ball brushed the off-stump but the bails didn’t fall!!

Iyer grabbed these two chances given to him by the fielder and by the almighty by scoring 82 unbeaten runs in what was a tough day for India as they limped to 278/6 with the game evens.

Bails refuse to fall even as Shreyas Iyer gets bowled

In the 76th over of India’s innings, Ebadot Hossain dropped a dolly of a catch of Iyer at deep mid-wicket. Seven overs later, Hossain was left stunned once again as his delivery hit Iyer’s stumps, but the bails didn’t dislodge.

A back-of-length delivery nipped in sharply to Iyer and kept low. The batsman failed to get his bat under it in time and Iyer missed the ball to hear the sound of timber. So did Ebadot and all the Bangladeshi fielders as all of them went up in celebration.

However, within moments they all were left shocked and could manage a smile as they saw that not a single bail had fallen on the ground. In fact, the leg ball even moved up a little but remained on the stumps, which had also lightened up as the ball brushed the outside of the off-stump. As the rule says, at least one bail has to be dislodged completely in order for the batter to be out.

It was a grinding day for India in Chattogram. The visitors had been given a scare early on when they were reduced to 48/3 after the dismissals of Shubman Gill (20), KL Rahul (22), and Virat Kohli.

However, as he’s done on numerous occasions, Cheteshwar Pujara held his end, while the funky and aggressive Rishabh Pant countered with 46 runs off 45 balls.

After Pant’s dismissal, at 112/4, India were still in a precarious situation and were bailed out by Iyer and Pujara, the pair sharing a crucial partnership of 149 runs. Pujara got out for 90 off 203 balls followed by the dismissal of Axar Patel late in the day. Iyer is 18 runs away from what would be his second Test century.
