India captain Rohit Sharma had looked in good touch in the first ODI against Bangladesh in Dhaka on Sunday.

On a tricky, slow, low and turning surface, Sharma struck 4 fours and a six to raise the hopes of the Indian fans of a big knock after a long time from the opener. However, the hopes were dashed away by Bangladesh’s main man, Shakib Al Hasan, who slid an arm ball straight into Sharma’s stumps.

The right-hander played for the turn, but the ball went on straight with the angle and crashed into the stumps. ending Rohit’s innings on 27 runs from 31 balls. Virat Kohli, too, got out to Shakib two balls later and India couldn’t recover later on, despite KL Rahul’s 73 off 70, and ended with 186.

The 186 didn’t prove enough as Mehidy Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman’s forged an astonishing 51* run unbeaten stand in 41 balls to take Bangladesh home by just 1 wicket after their side was closer to a loss when at 136/9, following a collapse from 128/4.

During Rohit’s innings, interestingly, fans spotted Suryakumar Yadav’s signature on Sharma’s bat. In what is a brief moment captured in a video, the sign ‘SK Yadav’ can be seen on the bottom of Rohit’s bat.

Suryakumar isn’t part of this Bangladesh ODI series. The right-hander, who is currently the number 1 ranked T20I batter in the world, has been rested after the tour of Australia (for the T20 World Cup) followed by 6 white-ball games in New Zealand.

The second ODI will be played on Wednesday at the same venue, Dhaka. Bangladesh will aim to seal the series while India will look to bounce back and level it.
