The highly anticipated day has arrived for the Indian cricket fraternity. On Tuesday, April 30th, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) finally announced the Indian squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The tournament is scheduled for June this year in the USA and the Caribbean.
Rohit Sharma To Lead; Hardik Pandya Named Vice-Captain:
Rohit Sharma is all set to lead the Men in Blue in another ICC tournament. Hardik Pandya will serve as Rohit’s deputy in the tournament. All thanks to his brilliant performances in the IPL 2024, Yuzvendra Chahal has finally earned his place back in the team after a long sabbatical. However, young sensation Rinku Singh has been omitted from the squad and will be part of the reserves.
Rinku Singh In Reserves:
For the unversed, Rinku Singh has been a consistent performer for India in T20Is over the past year, showing strong batting performances. However, for the T20 World Cup, the BCCI has opted to include Shivam Dube instead. Dube has been in excellent form during the ongoing IPL 2024, which likely influenced his selection.
KL Rahul Has Been Dropped; Rishabh Pant To Make A Comeback
While KL Rahul has been dropped from the team, on the other hand, Rishabh Pant makes a return to the Indian team after a hiatus since December 2022. Pant has been selected as a keeper-batter alongside Sanju Samson, who has been exceptional for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL.
In addition to Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel have been named as the all-rounders in the squad. The duo will provide spin bowling options alongside Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal, both leg-spinners. Ravi Bishnoi did not make the final cut.
India’s pace attack for the T20 World Cup comprises Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammad Siraj, who will play crucial roles in the tournament.
Four reserves have also been named by the Board of Control for Cricket in India: Shubman Gill, Khaleel Ahmed, Avesh Khan, and Rinku Singh, who will be on standby with the team.
