The start of the IPL 2024 season is only about less than six weeks away but the BCCI has not yet announced the schedule. However, the BCCI is strongly considering May 26 to be finalized as the date of the final, giving Team India players 8 days for their first match in the T20 World Cup.
It was earlier reported that the tentative date for the start of the IPL 2024 season is March 22 while the tentative date for the final is May 26.
The T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and West Indies will get underway on June 2nd and India’s first match, against Ireland in New York, is on June 5.
Journalist Kushan Sarkar of PTI News tweeted, “IPL final could be tentatively held on May 26 (repeat tentative). Effectively gives Indian team one week time (8 days) before first WT20 game on June 5. #IPL2024”
IPL 2024 to be hosted completely in India despite the elections

The major reason for the delay in the announcement of the schedule of the IPL 2024 is that it could clash with the general elections. The BCCI is waiting for the polling dates for India’s general elections to be finalized by the Election Commission.
Arun Singh Dhumal, the chairman of the IPL, has shed more light on this topic, expressing optimism that the tournament will not be shifted outside India, and that the BCCI is working with the Election Commission to secure the schedules of the elections.
Arun Dhumal was quoted by IANS saying, ”We will work with the Indian government, and agencies to make sure that the league takes place in India. We are waiting for the schedule of the general election to be announced and then we will plan accordingly…like which state will host what game at the time of election will be planned that way.”
”It (IPL) will most likely start from March end… and general elections are in April, so we will work it out with the help of the government.”
