Asia Cup 2023

Only 15 days are left for the much-awaited Asia Cup 2023 to kickstart, but the Ajit Agarkar-led BCCI selection committee is yet to pick an India squad for the marquee tournament. Interestingly, only three out of the six participants have released their squad list so far. Apart from India, co-hosts Sri Lanka and Afghanistan are also yet to make the announcement.

The Asia Cup 2023 tournament will begin with a match between Pakistan and Nepal in Multan, Pakistan, on August 30. The much-awaited India-Pakistan clash will take place in Kandy, Sri Lanka, on September 2.

Team India will kickstart their campaign in the Asia Cup 2023 with a game against Pakistan on September 2. Interestingly, the two arch-rivals can face each other two more times if they manage to make it to the Super 4s and the final of the Continental Cup.

The last time the Indian cricket team took part in the Asia Cup in 2022 they failed to reach the finals. This time Rohit Sharma and his team would be eager to win Asia Cup for the seventh time.

Why BCCI Has Delayed Team India Squad Announcement For Asia Cup 2023

Meanwhile, it has been reported that the team selection has been deferred because the selectors wanted to give KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer ample time to prove their fitness for the Asia Cup 2023.

According to a report in the news agency PTI, the announcement could come by the middle or end of this week now.

For the unversed, both KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer underwent surgeries earlier this year and have been recovering at the NCA, looking forward to getting fit in time for the Asia Cup and more importantly, the ODI World Cup in October-November. Both the players will have to prove their fitness for the game and selectors will also keep a close eye on whether Rahul can keep the wickets for the duration of 50 overs.
