BCCI Finally Makes A Big Call On Rohit Sharma’s Captaincy

Indian captain Rohit Sharma has come under a lot of pressure after Team India’s humiliating defeat in the World Test Championship 2023 Final against Australia. He has been facing severe criticism from all corners, with many demanding his removal from the captaincy position.

Rohit Sharma To Remain Team India’s Captain

However, Sharma is set to remain the captain of the Indian Test team for the upcoming tour of West Indies. The selectors have reportedly decided to persist with Rohit and given him another chance to lead the team.

Along with Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara is also expected to get a longer run in the team. Pujara was dropped from the team in 2022 but he made a comeback for the one-off Test against Australia, however, he failed to leave a mark with his performance, scoring just 14 and 27 runs. He is also expected to retain his spot in the squad.

Meanwhile, with the BCCI giving the senior players a longer rope, young players like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad might have to wait for their opportunity. Jaiswal and Gaikwad have played unofficial Test matches for India A and are said to be part of the plans for Test cricket but they might not be included in the upcoming series against the West Indies.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to announce the squads for the West Indies tour in the coming weeks. Moreover, it is very likely that Hardik Pandya will continue to lead the Indian cricket team in the T20 format.

Recently, the BCCI announced the tour schedule and venues for the upcoming West Indies versus India multi-format series to be held in July and August this year. The much-awaited series will kickstart with two Tests, which will be a part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle.
