The BCCI is reportedly furious at the announcement of the ticket prices by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) of the World Cup 2023 matches at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
The Eden Gardens in Kolkata, one of the most iconic and historic venues in India, will host 5 matches in the World Cup 2023, including India vs South Africa and the second-semi-final. If India reaches the semi-final, they are initially slotted to play their semi-final at the Wankhede in Mumbai, however, if India and Pakistan are to face off in the semis, then the match will be played in Kolkata, because Pakistani players are not permitted to travel to Mumbai.
The CAB announced the ticket prices for the Kolkata matches recently which has not gone down well with the BCCI officials as CAB did it without consulting the BCCI.
Former BCCI and CAB President Sourav Ganguly visited the Eden Gardens office on Monday to look into the matter. When asked for a comment on the reported conflict between CAB and the BCCI, Ganguly made it clear that ticket prices for matches in Kolkata came under the purview of the CAB.
Speaking with Telegraph India, Sourav Ganguly said: “This is totally the CAB’s jurisdiction. They’ll deal with it.”
A senior CAB officer later said: “Sourav was here mainly to know how Eden Gardens’ renovation was going, while we also discussed about stadium upgradation.”
Whether the ticket prices for the Eden matches are revised or remain the same, the CAB is confident of sorting everything out “at the earliest”.
Apart from the India vs South Africa match on November 5 and the second semifinal on November 16, Eden Gardens will also host Netherlands vs Bangladesh (October 28), Pakistan vs Bangladesh (October 31) and England vs Pakistan (November 12).
Having Jaiswal in the World Cup squad is a must: Sourav Ganguly

Meanwhile, Sourav Ganguly also spoke briefly about the talented opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who slammed 171 on his Test debut against West Indies in Dominica.
While praising Jaiswal, Ganguly even went on to say that having Jaiswal in India’s World Cup 2023 is a “must”.
“Scoring a hundred on debut is always massive. I too have done it, so I know how special it is. Even technique-wise, he seems really good. A left-handed batsman’s presence in the team always helps. So, having him in the World Cup squad is a must,” the former India skipper opined.
