BCCI Receives Fake Applications From ‘Dhoni, Tendulkar, Inzamam’ For New Selection Committee

In a hilarious bit of news, the BCCI has received hundreds of applications for the new selection committee, however, it also includes applications from fake names of MS Dhoni, Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, and even Inzamam ul Haq.

The BCCI had invited applications to replace the five-member selection committee after the Chetan Sharma-led selectors were sacked following the appointment of new BCCI President Roger Binny.

The board has formed a three-member Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjape and Sulakshana Naik to select the five-member selection committee. Chetan Sharma and Harvinder Singh, who were a part of the five-member selection committee that was sacked, are said to have reapplied for the role.

Among the several who have applied for the job, as reported by PTI, BCCI has also got several fake applications from candidates claiming to be Dhoni, Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, and even former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq.

Tendulkar's Tactical Acumen Behind Dhoni's Promotion in World Cup Final

This led to a laughter riot and flooding of jokes and memes on social media. Here are some of the reactions:

The Cricket Advisory Committee is expected to shortlist 10 names for the high-profile positions.

“Around 600 applications have been received and some of them have come from fake ids claiming to be Dhoni, Sehwag and Tendulkar. They are simply wasting BCCI’s time by doing that. The CAC will shortlist 10 candidates and then choose the final five. The process will be completed soon,” a BCCI source told PTI

The Indian team failed to reach the final of the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup. They also lost the important Edgbaston Test, losing crucial WTC points and a chance to win the Test series in England. The 10-wicket humiliation by England in the T20 WC semi-final perhaps forced the board to sack the selectors. To add salt to the wounds, India also lost the ODI series in Bangladesh. Even though India were missing important players – Bumrah and Jadeja in most of these matches, and at times Rohit and KL Rahul too – all the losses were very disappointing.
