India’s star bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been officially ruled out of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 on Monday. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed the news via a press release. It has to be noted that Bumrah has already left the Indian squad and went to the National Cricket Academy, Bengaluru to recover from his back injury.

Though, speculations were already rife that the ace pacer would miss the marquee event in Australia this year, however, the BCCI was waiting for his medical reports. On Monday, the BCCI confirmed the same and the governing body has stated that a replacement will be announced soon.

Jasprit Bumrah suffered the injury on the eve of the series opener against South Africa which captain Rohit Sharma described as a ‘niggle’ at the toss. However, it was later on revealed that Bumrah will miss the entire series.

Bumrah recently made his comeback to the Indian team after recovering from a back injury. He was a part of the 3-match T20I series against Australia, where he played in two games and picked only one wicket. He didn’t look in his best shape during the series and also turned out to be expensive for India, after having conceded 50 runs in the 3rd T20I without picking a single wicket.

All the attention will now turn towards who will take Bumrah’s place in the team. Mohammed Shami and Deepak Chahar are the two likely contenders as they are part of the standby players.
