A biopic on former India skipper Sourav Ganguly is soon to hit the cinema screens as the director and actor have been finalized with the final say of ‘Dada’ himself.

The 51-year-old from Bengal is one of India’s most inspirational captains who pulled the team out of the match-fixing scandals in the late 90s. The Natwest Series win in England in 2002 and reaching the World Cup 2003 final in South Africa are the peak points of Ganguly’s captaincy career.

Who will be the actor in the biopic of Sourav Ganguly?

The talented Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana will play the role of Sourav Ganguly in the former India captain’s biopic, which will be directed by Vikramaditya Motwane.

PeepingMoon.com reported this week that Ayushmann Khurrana, who is known for his versatile acting, has formally signed to do Sourav Ganguly’s role in the cricketer’s biopic. Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg will produce this grand project and Vikramaditya Motwane, who has directed notable movies like Udaan, Lootera, Bhavesh Joshi Superhero, and Jubilee, has been chosen as the director.

“Producers Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg, who are producing this film under their Luv Films banner, have hit a six by bringing together Ayushmann Khurrana and Vikramaditya Motwane. Both have established themselves as formidable forces with an incredible body of work throughout the years,” said the report.

It has been learned that Ayushmann Khurrana is also a left-handed batsman, which would make it easier for him to imitate Ganguly’s stance and strokes. Khurrana, though, would need to bring out plenty of aggression and inner fire to do justice to Sourav Ganguly’s persona.

The report revealed that Ayushmann had been in discussions with Ganguly and the producers since last year and “was the producer’s ideal choice from the beginning”. The actor will now undergo months of cricket training before the shoot commences. All parties involved are hoping to release the film in the second half of 2024.
