Former India all-rounder Roger Binny was announced as the new BCCI President, taking over the duties from Sourav Ganguly, on Tuesday following BCCI’s AGM.
Binny, a crucial cog of India’s 1983 World Cup winning side, is the 36th BCCI President. Sourav Ganguly was at the helm of the BCCI for the past three years, but now didn’t have the backing of the state associations, while Jay Shah was backed as the Secretary of the BCCI and will continue in his role. Rajeev Shukla is named the new vice-president, and Ashish Shelar has taken over as the new treasurer with Arun Singh Dhamal getting the post of the Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman.
Roger Binny vows to focus on fitness of Indian cricketers

On the first day of his office, Roger Binny hit the ground running as he announced the two major areas of focus that he will give as the new BCCI President.
Roger Binny cited the latest injury to fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah that ruled the speedster out of the T20 World Cup, and said that he wants to work on the prevention of the fitness of the Indian players. The other aspect to be improved, Binny said, was the quality of pitches across the country.
“As the BCCI president, I want to primarily focus on 2 things. First is the prevention of injuries to the players. Jasprit Bumrah got injured just before the World Cup, which affects the whole plan. Second, I want to focus on the pitches in the country,” Binny was quoted saying by ANI following BCCI’s AGM.
Outgoing President Sourav Ganguly said: “I wish Roger (Binny) all the best. The new group will take this forward. BCCI is in great hands. Indian cricket is strong so I wish them all the luck.”
Binny was India’s highest wicket-taker in the victorious 1983 World Cup in England, which India won by defeating West Indies in the final. He has hosted various posts in the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) and had been its president since 2019. Binny was also a national selector from 2012 to 2015.
