Bumrah, Shami And Thakur Have Created A New Record For India In Test Cricket: The Indian pace bowling attack has taken on the world since 2018. After registering twin series wins in Australia, India lead 2-1 in the away series in England which is unfinished yet. And now are one win away from their maiden Test series win on South African soil.
The current fast bowling attack is unarguably India’s greatest ever. Jasprit Bumrah is the leader of this pace bowling cartel; senior bowlers Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav have regularly played the lead role alongside Bumrah; youngsters Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur have also proven themselves potent overseas conditions.
On the ongoing South Africa tour, three seamers – Bumrah, Shami, and Thakur – out of those have now created another record that has never been made in Indian cricket.
This is the first time that 3 different Indian pacers have taken five-wicket hauls in 3 consecutive Tests of a series, according to statistician Kausthub Gudipati. Shami took a five-for in the first innings in Centurion; in the second Test in Johannesburg, Thakur returned with record-breaking figures of 7/61; finally, in the third Test, in Cape Town, Bumrah rattled the hosts with his five-wicket haul.
It’s astonishing that this – three Indian pacers taking five-fors in 3 consecutive Tests – has never happened before in Indian cricket. Though it’s not at all surprising that the current crop of pacers has done this, for they have been brilliant in the past four years when the batters haven’t been at their best.

Speaking of the third Test, India had taken a slender 13-run lead in the first innings after bowling out South Africa for 210. While this may be a small lead, considering how difficult batting has been on this surface, any lead is crucial; it also gives them a psychological advantage over the hosts.
Bumrah’s 5-for was complemented by a brace each for Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami while Shardul Thakur took one wicket.
India, however, lost both the openers, KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal, in the first six overs. Skipper Virat Kohli looked in fine touch, carrying on from his first innings effort, and so did Cheteshwar Pujara, as both took the team home further unscathed. India’s score at stumps is 57/2, with the lead of 70 runs.
