Cameron Green Opens Up On Opening The Innings In Ashes 2023

Australian all-rounder Cameron Green claimed that he is willing to bat at any position in the top order to regain his place in the Ashes. However, he also feels that it would be tough to reprise his white-ball form as an opener in the Test format, considering the demands of both batting and bowling responsibilities.

Cameron Green Is Willing To Bat At Any Position

Notably, Cameron Green was ruled out of the third Test match because of a minor hamstring issue. His absence gave an opportunity to Mitchell Marsh, who impressed with a stunning century in Australia’s first innings. The same has left the selectors in a dilemma ahead of the next match at Old Trafford. As per the speculation, either Green or Marsh will open the innings, filling in for David Warner, who was seen struggling in the previous match.

However, Cameron Green admitted that it is tough to take on the new ball while also being expected to bowl lengthy spells with the older ball. As quoted by Perth Now, the towering all-rounder said:

“I think it’s a bit of a stretch. Being an allrounder, it would be hard. Probably Shane Watson is the only one who comes to mind doing that, and I’m not too sure how much he bowled. Anyone would be happy to bat anywhere to play Test cricket. You always put your hand up for selection, but have to wait and see what selectors think.”

Further, Cameron Green claimed that he expected Mitchell Marsh to perform the way he did at Headingley. He said:

“I kind of look up to Mitch, so I’m so happy to see him play well. There was no doubt in my mind that he was going to come back and play an incredible game, which he did. So happy for him. We both have a great relationship. We’re so happy for each other when one gets picked over the other, basically.”

Marsh played a run-a-ball 118 in the first innings at Headingley and provided a couple of crucial breakthroughs.
