Cricket has become a game which has evolved in almost every aspect as compared to say, 50 years back. There have been many players in the game who have been able to smash bowlers around. Most of them attribute this to their strength but a lot of it has to also go with their bats.
Here are the heaviest bats used by players:
Chris Gayle, Spartan CG “The Boss”:
The West Indian is one player who has never shied from hitting the big sixes and boundaries. Playing cricket as if it were child’s play, Gayle has single-handedly managed to destroy opponents with his Spartan CG Bat.
Nicknamed “The Boss”, this range of bats weighs around 1.36 kilos, making it one of the biggest in the game. Gayle joined Spartan back in 2012 before embarking on a journey to become the greatest T20 batsman ever.
Lance Klusener, SS Zulu:
The South African legend is another player who utilised a massive bat in order to hit big runs and help his team. He was nicknamed Zulu by his teammates and the famous bat-makers SS decided to make a range after it.
The bat weighs a good 1.53 kilograms and Klusener has plundered boundaries with the bat on many occasions. As soon as he changed bats, he smashed a 174 against England. Not lucky? Think again. The bat also helped him become the player of the 1999 World Cup.
David Warner, Gray Nicolls Kaboom:
A modern day smasher, David Warner has become a respected batsman across all three formats thanks to his power-packed batting and fielding. However, for all his tiny frame, Warner walks out carrying a bat that weighs 1.24 kilograms.
The bat has a huge face and massive edges to gain maximum purchase off shots. Not as big as Gayle’s bat, Warner has stuck with the same bat since his introduction to cricket.
Virender Sehwag, SG VS 319:
Named after his immortal 319 innings that made him the first Indian batsman to ever hit a triple century, Sehwag’s bat weighs in at a heavy 1.35 kilograms. He has plundered bowlers all over the world during his prime and the bat has taken quite some beating.
Since Sehwag does not believe in running, he hits the ball really hard and with such a heavy bat, it is bound to reach the boundaries. He scored an ODI double hundred with the bat along with his IPL century.
Sachin Tendulkar, MRF, Adidas:
Though he was sponsored by MRF for the longest time and then Adidas, Sachin was able to hit most runs with a very heavy bat. Weighing 1.47 kilos, he had one of the most power-packed bats in the game.
Sachin scored almost all his runs with this bat and even suffered an elbow injury due to this. The willow was so popular that some bowlers even complained against it’s size.
MS Dhoni’s Spartan Bat:
MS Dhoni is one of the hardest hitters of the ball in cricket history. He is a very powerful man who gives it his all when he goes for big hits. Over the years, we have seen Dhoni smash some of the biggest sixes and a lot of his credit also goes to his bat makers. In the last few years, Dhoni has been using a Spartan bat which weighs around 1.27 kilos. It’s a massive piece with a lot of meat in it.
