Chris Gayle likely to miss Australia series; will play in IPL 2015

West Indies’ swashbuckling batsman Chris Gayle has been ruled out of the two-Test series against Australia in June. Gayle has been struggling with his back injury that had already ruled him out for the home Test series against England. However, Gayle will play in the eight edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which is scheduled to start on April 8 2015.

“The West Indies team is preparing for a three-Test series against England which starts later this month,” a spokesperson told cricket.com.au.

“The start of the Australia Test series is still two months away – almost to the day. As soon as we have confirmation of a squad for the series, we will publicise in the usual manner”, the report said.

Gayle is one of the most popular players in the IPL and his franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) rely heavily on him. Gayle’s explosive style of batting has made him a very popular figure in India and he is one of the biggest crowd-pullers in the tournament.

After the stint for RCB, Gayle is all set to fly to United Kingdom (UK) for a short stint with county side Somerset in England’s domestic T20 season, which finishes on June 13. The second Test against Australia for West Indies at their home will start the very same day which makes it impossible for Chris Gayle to make an appearance in.

After the stint in England, Chris Gayle will return home to play in the Caribbean Premier League, which begins on June 20.
