CLT20 2014: Is This Harbhajan Singh’s Last Hurrah?

After Cricket World Cup 2011, Harbhajan Singh’s form went from bad to worse. He is no where in the picture as far as Team India is concerned. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja are now the front line spinners of India and replacing them seems impossible at the moment. In the last 2 years or so, Harbhajan Singh has been given many opportunities to make a comeback, but he hasn’t been able to prove his worth.

When Harbhajan was picked for the T20 World Cup 2012, his fans were hoping that he will return to international cricket by performing in this big tournament. But, after a good start, Harbhajan fell apart, and since then he is struggling to make come, which is now looking highly unlikely.

Even Sourav Ganguly, who has always been a big supporter of Harbhajan Singh, didn’t pick him in his list of 30 probables for the World Cup. And this says a lot about Harbhajan’s chances.

Harbhajan still believes there’s a lot of cricket left in him, and he is hopeful of playing the World Cup. Although, the chances of his comeback are very bleak, he would be desperate to go out in the middle and give some good performances for Mumbai Indians. It’s true that Harbhajan is struggling to comeback, but his value in T20 cricket can’t be ignored. He is a very intelligent T20 bowler, and on the pitches that have something for spinners, he can turn the match around single-handedly on his day. This year’s CLT20 is in India, and Mumbai Indians will be relying heavily on him on the slow-low pitches that will assist spinners.

There’s no denying the fact that even if Harbhajan performs well in CLT20 2014, he will not be picked for the World Cup. But, having said this, it will not stop Harbhajan from giving his best effort on the field. He has always been a fighter and he will give his best for the Mumbai Indians in this tournament.
