3 Coaches Who Can Replace Rahul Dravid As The Head Coach Of The Indian Cricket Team

3 Coaches Who Can Replace Rahul Dravid As The Head Coach Of The Indian Cricket Team: Rumours swirl around the Indian Cricket Team as Head Coach Rahul Dravid’s contract expiry looms in November. Dravid has, to some extent, left the cricketing world on tenterhooks, unsure whether he plans to continue his tenure, regardless of India’s performance in the upcoming World Cup 2023. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on their part, has decided to reserve their decision until the tournament’s end.

Dravid’s stint as the head coach paints a story of mixed success. The dominance of the Indian team at home and a position in the World Test Championship (WTC) Final underscore his achievements. However, the lack of a significant trophy has cast a long shadow over these accomplishments. As India stands on the brink of a transitional period, it could be time for Dravid’s successor to step up and begin the process of phasing out the veterans.

Dravid, reportedly, has found the exhaustive travel schedule and the ensuing lack of quality family time to be challenging. It’s suggested that he would decide on his future in the coaching role even if India achieves World Cup glory.

It is, however, too early to start discussing potential replacements. Yet, if one were to speculate, former teammate VVS Laxman appears to be a strong contender. Having replaced Dravid as the NCA head and with a stint as interim coach, Laxman has positioned himself as a natural successor. His recent assignment as a coach for the Asian Games strengthens his case. The stability that he could provide amidst the impending revamp at the National Cricket Academy may also work in his favour.

Internationally, former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting and ex-England coach Andy Flower are among the foreign options under consideration. Ponting’s aggressive approach and proven winning mentality could infuse fresh energy into the team, while Flower’s experience in franchise cricket could provide valuable insights. However, BCCI’s seeming reluctance to hire foreign coaches might prove to be a hurdle.

If Laxman doesn’t step up, former Indian opener Virender Sehwag might emerge as a dark horse in the race. However, Sehwag’s lack of coaching experience could make his appointment a tough sell. The likes of Ashish Nehra and Chandrakant Pandit, with their commendable coaching records, could also make a strong case.

The question of succession will inevitably come to the forefront as the World Cup draws nearer and Dravid’s contract expiry looms. For now, all eyes are on the World Cup, and the speculation will continue to simmer until a clear picture emerges.
