Young and talented Ishan Kishan has become the talk of the town after he stole the show with his blockbuster knock against Bangladesh in the 3rd ODI match. Ishan played a stunning knock as he registered a double century to help India post a mammoth total of 409.8 against Bangladesh in the match. Ishan Kishan came out to open the innings for team India with all-guns blazing and went on to score 210 runs off 131 balls. His knock was laced with 24 fours and 10 sixes.
While he has been receiving praise from all corners for his powerful knock, on the other hand, his knock has definitely given Shubman Gill a run for his money. Not just this, he has also put questions on Shikhar Dhawan’s place in the playing XI.
It has to be noted that India’s veteran opening pair of skipper Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan has not performed as per the expectations of their fans in the past few months. Shubman Gill is also doing well in the ODI format for a long time. Now with the 2023 ODI World Cup just around the corner, Ishan Kishan’s innings have given an option for the selectors for the opening slot. Several experts and critics have backed Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill for a place in the ODI squad for the marquee event after his sensational knock.
Meanwhile, after Kishan’s batting heroics, veteran wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik made a big statement on Dhawan’s future. Shikhar Dhawan has an exceptional record in ICC tournaments, however, currently, he is struggling with the bat. Talking about Dhawan’s selection in the upcoming Sri Lanka series to Cricbuzz, DK said:
“For Sri Lanka series, where does Dhawan stand? It is going to be interesting to see how they are going to leave out Ishan Kishan. Shubman Gill has been doing so well. If Rohit Sharma is available, somebody has to miss out. It could well be him (Dhawan). That could be a sad end to a glorious career. But some questions to answer for the new selectors.”
Further, DK added that if Rohit Sharma is not available for the Sri Lanka series, then Shubman Gill should replace him. He said:
“Interestingly, if Shubman Gill had been part of the squad, he would have probably opened because he has been doing it for some time with aplomb. Ishan Kishan, given an opportunity, has taken it with both hands. This is going to put Shikhar Dhawan in a fix,”
