With the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 just around the corner, the excitement and anticipation has been increasing among the fans with every passing day. Cricket teams have been looking to revamp their jerseys ahead of the marque event. Cricket Australia, who will be hosting the tournament, finally unveiled its indigenous kit on Wednesday.

This would be the first time Australia will wear the indigenous-themed jersey in the T20 World Cup. Revealing their new kit, Cricket Australia wrote: Our men’s national team will don a new uniform designed by Kirrae Whurrong woman Aunty Fiona Clarke, in collaboration with Butchulla and Gubbi Gubbi woman Courtney Hagan, when they defend their @T20WorldCup title on home soil next month ❤️💛🖤”

Talking about the new kit, the Australian side will have a gold and green gradient on the trunk while the jersey sleeves will be black. Aunty Fiona Clarke and Courtney Hagen have reportedly designed the kit.

“The overall design is to do with the process of connecting with yourself as an individual, as a team, in the community and whatever is surrounded by you with the river, the land, whatever you see,” Clarke said on the occasion. Further, Courtney Hagen explained that the idea behind the design of the kit is to incorporate the colors of both the First Nation flags in Australia. Hagen revealed: “In the middle we’ve been able to incorporate the colours of both of First Nations flags in Australia. So you’ve got the red, black and yellow, which represents the Aboriginal flag and the blue, white and green which represents the Torres Strait Islander flag,”

Meanwhile, the Aaron Finch side will go down in the tournament as the title defenders. Australia is in Group 1 alongside teams like  New Zealand, England, and Afghanistan. Two more names are to be added to this group. Australia will kickstart its campaign against the Kiwis on October 22.
