MSK Prasad, the chairman of Selection Committee, had erupted a storm on Monday when he said that former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s future was being discussed at selection meetings and the panel might look at alternatives if Dhoni fails to perform.
When asked about Dhoni’s future, he said, “You never know. We don’t say it is an automatic thing (selection) but we will see. We are all stakeholders. We all want the Indian team to do well. If he is delivering, why not? If he is not, we will have to look at alternatives.”
“You have been fair and I will be honest. Discussions happen about everybody. It is not just MS. When we pick, when we talk about combinations, we talk about everybody. You will also see in times to come,” he further added.
Dhoni’s place in the team had come under scrutiny after he scored 54 off 114 balls against West Indies, which is quite unrealistic considering Dhoni’s career strike rate. However, captain Virat Kohli had made it clear that Dhoni was an integral part of the team and would continue to be India’s leading wicket keeper.
MSK Prasad’s comment didn’t go down well with Dhoni fans who bashed him on twitter and questioned his judgement.
