Cricketers Who Are Living Very Tough Lives After Taking Retirement From Cricket: International cricket is a fairly high-paid job and it’s hard to believe that cricketers, who have played at the international level, can find themselves in financial troubles at some point, but it has been the case with many former cricketers around the world.

What needs to be kept in mind that the cricketers get paid well only when they play at the highest level. There is a huge income gap between those who play at the domestic level and those who go on to represent their country internationally.

So for the cricketers to be able to secure their future financially, they must play at the international level for a considerable amount of time.

Here are some of the cricketers who are living miserable lives after retirement –

Arshad Khan (Pakistan)

Arshad Khan is a former off-spinner who represented Pakistan in a total of 9 Tests and 58 One Day Internationals. He played a few games against India as well after the bilateral ties between India and Pakistan resumed in 2004.
However, at no stage was Arshad able to establish himself in the Pakistan team in any format of the game. It was reported a few years back that Arshad was working as a cab driver in Australia to earn his living.

Chris Cairns (New Zealand)

Now Chris Cairns was not someone who was hit-and-miss in international cricket. He played international cricket for quite long and was a regular part of the New Zealand set-up. He has more than 400 international wickets to his name – 218 in Test cricket and 201 in One Day Internationals.

Cairns had to fight a long legal battle to get his name cleared from the match-fixing scandal he was accused of being involved in and now he is reportedly facing financial issues. Cairns is working as a bus washer in New Zealand to make ends meet.

Eddo Brandes (Zimbabwe)

Eddo Brandes is a former Zimbabwean all-rounder who’s famous for his hat-trick against England.

Brandes was seen as a promising cricketer when he first turned up on the international circuit. Not only was he a skillful bowler, but he had also got good stroke-making abilities with the bat as well, however, he couldn’t turn out to be the kind of cricketer he was expected to be.
Brandes is now working as a tomato farmer to feed his family.
