Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina is hailed as one of the finest middle-order batters to have ever played for team India. He is also known as the most consistent player in the history of the Indian Premier League, having amassed 5528 runs in 205 matches. He is the fourth-highest run-getter in IPL history. 4687 of those runs were scored for Chennai in his 11 years of association with the franchise, making him CSK’s top run-scorer ahead of captain MS Dhoni.
However, many hearts were broken when Suresh Raina, who is fondly called Mr.IPL, went unsold at the IPL 2022 mega-auction. Raina going unsold at the two-day mega auction for the 2022 season of the IPL was among the biggest talking point, which was followed by a huge uproar among the fans.
CSK CEO Revealed The Reason Behind Not Bidding For Suresh Raina
Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanath, later on, revealed why the franchise didn’t bid for the veteran batter despite hailing him as one of the most consistent performers for the team.
Viswanath explained that even while Raina was a consistent performer for CSK, the form of the player and team composition play a big role when forming a team.
“Raina has been one of the most consistent performers for CSK for the last 12 years. Of course, it was very difficult for us, no to have Raina but at the same time, you should also understand that the team composition depends on the form and kind of team which any team would like to have so that’s one of the reasons why we thought he may not fit into this team,” Kasi said in a video shared by CSK on their YouTube channel.
Despite Viswanath’s explanation, many fans and followers of the CSK were not happy with the decision of the franchise, considering the contribution of Raina in making the team one of the most successful franchises in Indian Premier League history.
