While most of the franchises invested in young talents in the IPL auctions, Chennai Super Kings decided to go for old horses. A majority of the players of the Chennai Super Kings are aged above 30 including skipper MS Dhoni.
The roster they built for themselves in the auctions was indeed surprising as they picked up older guys than going for the young guns.
The CSK also got trolled badly on Twitter for picking up old horses and ignoring young talents. The list of CSK’s purchases in the auctions included Shane Watson, Kedar Jadhav, Faf Du Plessis, Dwayne Bravo, and Harbhajan Singh and all of these happen to be above 30 years of age and some even in the upper 30s.

Kedar Jadhav was bought for 7.8 crores by the Chennai Super Kings. Here is what the CEO of the Chennai Super Kings had to say.
“Kedar’s slow bowling and batting abilities make him a great buy. We had decided before going into the auctions that we are going to go all out for these guys. We are very happy with the team we have got,”
CSK Manager Also Explains the purchase of Imran Tahir
The CSK also bought the 38-year-old spinner for 1 crore. They also explained the reason behind going for Imran Tahir. Here is what the manager said
Look at his quality, don’t see his age. This is the era when athletes go that extra mile to keep themselves fit even when they are closing 40. The prime example of that is Roger Federer, who wins so much at 37,”
Harbhajan Talked about his selection.
The former Indian spinner also in an interview post auctions emphasized that experience has a lot of relevance. He said that it is not necessary that youngsters will always be match-winning. Here is what Bhajji said
“Youth does not necessarily translate into matchwinning performances. There is no substitute for experience — we are players who have walked the difficult road and know how to deal with it,”
