The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fans thanked Ravindra Jadeja and showered the all-rounder with a lot of love and praise for helping MS Dhoni lift the IPL trophy last year. This reaction from the CSK fans came right after CSK announced that Dhoni had handed over the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad for the IPL 2024 season.

On Thursday, one day out from the start of IPL 2024 season, CSK confirmed that it will be Gaikwad who will be leading the franchise on the field in IPL 2024, which starts on Saturday at Chepauk against RCB.

CSK said in a statement: “MS Dhoni has handed over Chennai Super Kings’ captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of the start of TATA IPL 2024. Ruturaj has been an integral part of Chennai Super Kings since 2019 and has played 52 matches in IPL during this period. The team looks forward to the upcoming season.”

This meant that MS Dhoni’s last IPL match as a captain was the IPL 2023 final against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad. Ravindra Jadeja won the match for CSK and the trophy by hitting a six and a four to Mohit Sharma in the final when 10 runs were required off the last two balls.

Those were wild scenes then as Ravindra Jadeja jumped over MS Dhoni and hugged him and the then CSK skipper was seen getting so emotional for the first time in his IPL career.

After the news of Dhoni’s stepping down as captain broke on Thursday, the CSK fans thanked Ravindra Jadeja for his contribution to winning the IPL 2023 final.

CSK fans thank Ravindra Jadeja for completing MS Dhoni’s captaincy tenure with IPL trophy:

CSK CEO Kasi Viswanatham said, “I got to know of the decision just before the captains meeting. You have to respect his decision, it is his call – Whatever Dhoni does, it is in the best interest of the team”.
