Chennai Super Kings’ preparations for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League have come into complications after a player and a few staff members of the CSK were tested positive for Coronavirus pandemic. The same has resulted in the entire CSK contingent needing to undergo a fourth COVID-19 test.
As per the reports, the player in question here is an Indian bowler. Besides him, 10 members from CSK’s support staff have also been tested positive for Coronavirus. The player and support staff members tested positive for COVID-19 on Days 1 and 3 of the mandatory testing period in Dubai. As per the protocols, they would be allowed to train or join only if they return negative results in all three tests.
MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings was the only team to have organized a bio-secure training camp before heading to the UAE. Bowling coach Laxmipathy Balaji and local CSK players had attended the camp.
The news has brought a major setback to Chennai Super Kings as some teams have already started their preparations for the tournament, while on the other hand, Following the news, CSK has gon into quarantine till the end of the month and will be the last one to begin their outdoor training in Dubai.
Meanwhile, talking about the upcoming season of the league, it will kickstart from September 19. While the schedule is yet to be decided, a total of sixty games will be played over 53 days across three venues in the UAE — Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah. This latest development has put the IPL on alert as CSK were expected to play against MI in the tournament opener.
