After losing the game to Australia, Dane van Niekerk had said that she would take that she doesn’t want a ‘free pass’ to the final. She had said:
I am not going to sit and lie and say, ‘You don’t think about it’. I have to give credit to the ground staff; they did absolutely everything to keep us on the park. And we are here to play cricket. I’d rather lose than get a free pass into the World Cup final,”
Her statement didn’t go down well with the cricket fans especially the Indian cricket fans, who took this as a direct dig at the Indian cricket team, who marched into the World Cup finals despite the abandoned semi-final against England at the SCG itself. Netizens are trolling the South African skipper left, right and center for her statement.

Well, the semi-final match that took place recently between India and England was abandoned because of rain. However, the Indian cricket team was able to make it to the finals because of having more points in the group stage. After six attempts, the Indian women’s cricket team has finally made it to the finals for the first time.
Now, after receiving a lot of backlash, the South African skipper has finally opened up about the same. Dane took to her Instagram and claimed that her comments were being blown out of proportion. Sharing the video of the same interview, Dane wrote:
NO reference was made towards ANY team. If you want to take it out of context and not actually watch the whole interview, be my guest. Still a VERY proud captain of a VERY talented team,”
