Darren Sammy Slammed Sunrisers Hyderabad Cricketers For Calling Him ‘Kaalu’

Darren Sammy Slams SRH Players: With the furor over saving black lives which has been engulfing the entire world with raging flames after the inhuman humiliation, torment, and finally death of George Floyd, Darren Sammy made an explosive statement against his Sunrisers Hyderabad compatriots, that was an archetype of typical racism.

Former West Indies skipper, Sammy has egged on ICC to raise voice against the incessant social injustice which is being perpetrated against them right since the game’s inception.

Sammy stated in an Instagram post that he and Thisara Perera were called as Kalu in their Sunrisers days. Initially, he thought that the word meant a strong black man but when he found out that this was a derisory allusion to his complexion, he was absolutely ballistic.

His exact words in the post were, “Oh so that’s what that meant when they called me and Thisara Perera Kalu in India when we played for Sunrisers. I just thought they were calling me a strong black man… I’m more piss now. I just learned what that ‘kaalu’ meant when I played for Sunrisers in the IPL. They called me and Perera by that name. I thought it meant strong Stallion. My previous post tells me something different and I am angry”.

Sammy’s paroxysm came after watching ‘Patriot Act’ which showcased the unsparing casual racism which is being carried on in the households. It also brought out that how one member of the family calling black or colored people “Kaalu” is a rife practice.

Sammy’s IPL span was only for three seasons as he began his journey in 2013. He started with Sunrisers Hyderabad, then moved to Royal Challengers Bangalore and finally played for Kings XI Punjab.

Sammy played 22 matches in the IPL, plundering 295 runs at a staggering strike-rate of 122.41. His bowling spells were decent too as he managed to scalp 11 wickets.
