The David Warner-led Delhi Capitals suffered their sixth defeat in the ongoing 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League as they lost the game against SunRisers Hyderabad at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Ricky Ponting Gave A Death Stare To David Warner

While the top-order batters have been struggling to score runs, Delhi Capitals captain David Warner has been performing like a lone warrior. Though, his strike rate has been questioned on multiple occasions but he is the only batter performing for his side. He has amassed 306 runs in 7 games and is currently in the 6th place on the Orange Cap list.

On Saturday, Warner failed miserably to leave a mark with his bat in the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Arun Jaitley Stadium. To everyone’s surprise, Warner was knocked over by former Indian teammate Bhuvneshwar Kumar off the very second ball of Delhi Capitals’ run chase of 198.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled a bit fuller on a delivery off that kept low, Warner looked to heave it away but only managed to get an inside edge back onto the stumps.

Warner looked extremely disappointed on his way back to the dugout however it was the reaction of head coach Ricky Ponting that has gone viral on the internet. The DC head coach looked extremely angry at Warner and was seen giving a death stare to the captain of the team.

Talking about the game, despite the stellar knocks of Phil Salt (59) and Mitchell Marsh (63) and a quickfire cameo of Axar Patel (29), Delhi Capitals failed to chase down the total and fell short of 9 runs.

Later, after the match, one of the biggest talking points about DC’s failed run chase was Axar Patel coming in down at no. 7. After the match, David Warner explained the reason behind demoting Patel. He said:

“He’s (Axar) in good touch. For us it was about, we get off to a good start and we know that him and me will have to handle their spinners with the ball spinning back in. Holding Axar can be difficult. We have been losing too many wickets through the middle,”

He added:

“We were off a bit with the ball, but I think Mitch Marsh bowled fantastic. He was our best bowler. To come up 9 runs short is disappointing. I don’t think the pitch slowed down a lot, they took pace off. When you lose wickets in the middle it can be extremely difficult,”
