Australian batter Aaron Finch announced his retirement from the ODI format on Saturday because of his recent struggles with form and fitness. He is all set to make his last appearance in the One Day Format in the third and final ODI match against New Zealand at Cazaly’s Stadium in Cairns on Sunday. Finch will continue to lead the white-ball squad in the T20I format ahead of the upcoming t20 World Cup.

Aaron Finch, who hasn’t scored a big number in the format recently, would hope to end his career on a high note as the Australian cricket team will eye a clean sweep over New Zealand.

Finch, who made his ODI debut in 2013 has 17 ODI centuries and is behind only Ricky Ponting (29), David Warner (18), and Mark Waugh (18) among his compatriots. He has scored 5401 runs in 145 ODI matches at an impressive average of 39.13 so far.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, Finch took to his social media and shared a heartfelt post as he announced his retirement from the ODI format of the game. He wrote: “It’s been one hell of a ride! To play with and against some of the greatest players of all time has been a privilege. Representing Australia was my dream as a kid and to have been the opportunities I have is beyond anything I could’ve hoped for. Thanks so much for all of the kind words, messages and well wishes!”

The post went viral in no time and was flooded with reactions from the fans to it. From cricketers and experts to fans, everyone came up with emotional messages and tributes while hailing the legacy of the cricketer in the ODI format. Among many, Australia’s star opener David Warner also took to his social media and penned a heartfelt post for his teammate. He wrote:

“We are not completely done just yet but, well done on an unbelievable ODI career mate. I have loved every minute of being your partner up the other end. From under 15s to now, it’s been a dream come true! You can now put the feet up and enjoy the family time. Thank you for all the memories on and off the field. Sorry I can’t be there tomorrow but I had a sneaky suspicion the other day it would be our last. Looking forward to being by your side in the t20s legend. Love you brother,”
