India and CSK’s star bowler Deepak Chahar gave a stunning performance with the bat during India vs Sri Lanka ODI series, that took place in the month of July this year. Recently, in an interview, he talked about his heroics and also revealed how MS Dhoni made his day even more special for him.

Well, the Indian cricket team led by Shikhar Dhawan had toured Sri Lanka for a series of three T20Is and three ODIs. The Indian side managed to win the ODI series by 2-1 but lost the T20 series by 1-2. Deepak Chahar played a stunning knock and became the hero of the second ODI match. He played a stunning knock of 69* runs and formed an amazing partnership with Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Recently, in a conversation with IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings, Chahar talked about his batting heroics and recalled going into the middle with a mindset of playing as many overs as possible. He said

“Finally I got an opportunity to bat in one match (smiles) and made good use of it. When I padded up, I saw wickets falling and then when I was next. I was not thinking about winning the match, I was just thinking about playing all the overs so that we can take the match closer, and when the match gets close, anything can happen”

He added:

“That particular match, I was playing what the situation demanded. I was taking the risk on the weakest bowler of that team. Hasaranga and Chameera were bowling really well, so my target was to play them off and target other bowlers,”

Further, Deepak Chahar revealed how his day became even more special for him as he received a text from legendary skipper MS Dhoni, who is also his skipper for Chennai Super Kings. He revealed:

“After that innings, he (MS Dhoni) messaged me for batting- ‘Very well played!’ so that was a very good moment for me,”

Deepak also revealed that MS Dhoni had picked him in the Chennai Super Kings squad for his batting performances only while recalling a game from the 2018 season when MS promoted him in the batting order. Chahar revealed:

“He picked me in the team because of my batting only. When I was in the Pune side (RPSG), I was picked as a batting all-rounder. In 2018, he sent me before him in one of the games. In that game, I scored 40 odd runs. After that, I didn’t get much opportunity, so I was waiting for my chance,”

Meanwhile, Chahar will be next seen in action playing for MS Dhoni-led Indian cricket team in the second-leg of the Indian cricket team, which will kickstart from September 19 in the UAE.
