The former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir, is regarded as one of the most destructive batsmen to have ever played for the Indian cricket team. His heroics in World Cup 2007 and 2011 are still etched in every Indian cricket fans’ mind. He scored a crucial 75 off 54 deliveries in the final of the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 and played a match-winning knock of 97 runs against Sri Lanka in the year 2011. However, he didn’t play much of the international cricket after the highs of the World Cup in 2011.

After 2011, in a period of only 4-6 months, Gautam Gambhir was significantly dropped from the team thanks to the likes of cricketers like Murali Vijay, Shikhar Dhawan, and Rohit Sharma.  Besides Gambhir, Virender Sehwag also lost his place during this period and two of India’s very best openers were replaced and later didn’t come back to the national team.
However, the former Indian cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar recently opened up about many things. During the interview, he also reckoned that Gambhir should have actually represented the country longer than he should have. Dilip was at the helm of the selection committee when Gambhir rose to become the number one opener.

But Dilip feels that Gautam Gambhir should have played more if he had control over his anger and emotions. He claimed:
“Underrated player. Had a lot of talent but couldn’t control his anger and emotions. I feel that for the kind of ability he had, he should have played much more for India,”
Talking about the career stats of Gautam Gambhir, he scored  4154 Test and 5238 ODI runs apart from amassing 932 runs in the shortest format of the game. Besides this, he has scored 20 tons at the international level, which also includes a double century in a Test in New Zealand.
