Dinesh Karthik Makes A Big Statement For Ravichandran Ashwin

Dinesh Karthik has said that Ravichandran Ashwin has enough wickets and runs to his credit, to be compared with the legendary Kapil Dev. Talking about Ashwin, after the conclusion of the first Test match, Dinesh Karthik said that Ashwin should now be spoken in the same breath with Kapil Dev, when it comes to Indian cricket.

Karthik also added that both the players have been match-winners for India and they are the best two all-rounders in the history of Indian cricket.

“Obviously, I don’t think I am in a place to judge both of them, but I must admit that they should be spoken of in the same breath when it comes to Indian cricket because both of them have been match-winners, have been exemplary, and have been definitely the two best all-rounders to have come out of this soil for a long, long time,” Dinesh Karthik said during a discussion on Cricbuzz.

Karthik also spoke about Ravichandran Ashwin’s man of the series awards and emphasised that he should be put in the same league as former Indian captain and legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev.

“You have to put him there (among India’s best all-rounders) with the number of Man of the Series he has won, the accolades he has got obviously.”

Dwelling more on Ravichandran Ashwin’s numbers, Karthik mentioned that he has 417 wickets to his credit in just 80 Test matches for India, along with 5 hundreds.

Dinesh Karthik Makes A Big Statement For Ravichandran Ashwin

“Getting 417 wickets in 80 Tests is an unbelievable record to have and the fact that he’s contributed and scored five hundreds, much more than a lot of the batters who play for a longer period of time in Test matches. There are people who have played 30-35 Tests, and still haven’t managed five hundreds,” Dinesh Karthik added.

OUR VIEW: Dinesh Karthik is right when he says that Ravichandran Ashwin is the second best all-rounder in the history of Indian cricket. His numbers are extraordinary with the ball and he has scored 5 Test hundreds and 11 fifties with his bat in red-ball cricket. We agree with Karthik’s opinion that Ravichandran Ashwin has done enough to put his name in the same league as legendary Kapil Dev.
