Continuing on his superb touch from Day 1, India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal converted his overnight score of 179 into a double-century against England in Visakhapatnam, and brought India’s first innings total closer to 400, which is only par at this venue because of the good batting pitch.
As he did on Day 1, Yashasvi Jaiswal gave respect to the metronomic James Anderson – even surviving a couple of menacing seaming deliveries – and targetted the inexperienced English spinners for a flurry of boundaries, finding gaps even in the in-out fields set by Ben Stokes. Eventually, however, he got out to Anderson on the score of 209, caught in the deep on the offside while trying to hit a big shot, which he felt he had to play with only tailenders left at the other end.
The left-hander had brought up his century yesterday with a six off Tom Hartley, today he reached his double hundred with a six and a four to off-spinner Shoaib Bashir. The celebrations were animated as they were yesterday and he gave a picturesque flying kiss in the air with the entire stadium and the dressing room on its feet, applauding this memorable double century. He strokes 19 fours and 7 sixes overall in his bumper innings.
