England vs India ODI Series 2014: can Team India bounce back?

The recently concluded Test series between England and India, was a big embarrassment for Team India and its fans. After winning the second match at Lord’s, Team India completely surrendered and played as badly as they could. In the end, it turned out be one of the most one-sided battles, as Team India went down without giving it a fight.

But now, India will have to forget about the past and concentrate on the upcoming ODI’s. There are 5 ODIs to be played.

But, the biggest question is- “Can the change in format change the fortunes of Team India?”

In my honest opinion, it isn’t looking likely. The confidence of the team is low, big players like Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan, have not been able to adapt to the swinging conditions, and the bowling attack, after bowling endlessly in the five-match Test series, is looking tired.

Having said this, ODIs have always been India’s most preferred format of the game, specifically overseas, and with the inclusion of some experienced and young players, India will try hard to bounce back.

POSITIVES FOR TEAM INDIA GOING INTO THE ODI SERIES:

Suresh Raina has come back and he is the man in form. He led India to a whitewash series win against Bangladesh and his role will be crucial in the lower-middle order with MS Dhoni.

Ravi Ashwin and Ravi Jadeja, who are both defensive in nature, will feel more comfortable with the white nut.

Inclusion of uncapped players like Sanju Samson and Karn Sharma, will push senior players to lift their game.

And, who knows, Ravi Shastri, the new Team Director, could inspire Team India to go out and win the series.

India’s probable XI for the 1st two ODI’s:

Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli,  Ajinkya Rahane, Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni(wk)(C), Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Mohammad Shami, Umesh Yadav
