On Monday, the Madras High Court confirmed that it will hear MS Dhoni‘s case against IPS officer Sampath Kumar on June 15.

Former India skipper MS Dhoni had filed a contempt of court case against a Tamil Nadu IPS officer named Sampath Kumar for his comments against the High Court and Supreme Court, in response to the INR 100 crore defamation case filed by the former captain for Sampath’s allegation of Dhoni being involved in IPL 2013 betting scam.

The CSK captain had filed a 100 crore defamation suit against the IPL officer for making scandaling remarks against him with regard to the 2013 IPL betting and spot-fixing saga.

In his written statement, IPS officer Sampath Kumar had reportedly made remarks that criticised the judiciary. Dhoni pleaded with the court to take action against Sampath Kumar and claimed that the comments were scandalous and amounted to contempt of court.

The Advocate General of Tamil Nadu R. Shanmugasundaram has granted the permission to MS Dhoni to file a case petition under the Contempt of Courts Act against Sampath Kumar after finding solid bases in the player’s plea.

MS Dhoni had reportedly given a written statement that said: “He has stated that the Supreme Court deviated from the rule of law and kept the deposition of the Justice Mudgal Committee, which was constituted to probe the 2013 match-fixing allegations, in a sealed cover for reasons he failed to comprehend.”

The 2014 IPL betting and spot-fixing scandal had found the owners and co-owners of CSK and RR guilty, which then resulted in the suspension of the two teams for two seasons, in 2016 and 2017.

Upon the franchise’s return, MS Dhoni led CSK to their third IPL title in 2018, fourth in 2021, and fifth in the recently concluded IPL 2023 season.

Meanwhile, MS Dhoni recently underwent knee surgery in a bid to prolong his IPL career.

With the decision of undergoing a knee surgery, the CSK skipper has hinted that he will continue to play in the IPL and will be back leading the side next season.
