Steve Smith is undoubtedly a world-class test batter, mastering the art of patience and technique. However, his transition to T20 cricket hasn’t been as seamless. Despite his skills, Smith hasn’t fully cemented his place in the T20 format, mainly due to his strike rate. In a game where quick scoring is crucial, Smith’s more traditional approach often falls short. His measured style, which serves him well in tests, sometimes hinders his ability to adapt to the fast-paced demands of T20 cricket. This leaves his position in the shortest format still in question.

Steve Smith Playing In IPL 2025?

Last seen in the IPL in 2021, Steve Smith has had a checkered T20 history but his current form may result in a triumphant return. Leading Washington Freedom to their first MLC championship in 2024, the former Australian captain ranked highest on team run statistics. Third-highest run scorer in the competition, Smith scored 336 runs with a strike rate of 148.67. His performance has revived discussions of an IPL comeback.

Steve Smith plans to enter the IPL 2025 mega auction, signaling his desire to return to the league. After a few years away, Smith is eager to showcase his skills in the IPL once again. His recent form suggests he could be a valuable addition to any team looking for experience and class.

“I’d love to be part of the IPL once again. I’ll be putting my name in the auction,” he said to CODE Sports.
