FACT: Mitchell Starc Has A Better Average In Test Cricket Than Virat Kohli Since 2019

Mitchell Starc Has A Better Average In Test Cricket Than Virat Kohli Since 2019: Fans have been left astounded by a really shocking statistic regarding Virat Kohli’s dip in form that has been going around in the past few days. An Australian broadcaster, ‘7 Cricket’ recently highlighted a stat that compared the batting averages of Australia fast bowling Mitchell Starc and Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli.

Now, Starc has clearly made marked improvements in his batting over the past couple of years that has been evident in the ongoing Ashes series, where he’s scored 151 runs in 5 innings while remaining not out thrice.

This has coincided with a lean run of Virat Kohli. ‘7 Cricket’ used this opportunity to highlight Starc’s decent form with the bat but also to have a dig at the talismanic Indian Test batsman and captain.

After Starc made 34* in Australia’s first innings at the SCG, the broadcaster put up a tweet comparing the Test batting averages of Starc and Kohli: since the start of 2019, Starc is averaging 38.63 while Kohli is 37.17!

Starc, who is one of the most fearsome fast bowlers in the world, is not really known for his batting. And, now, the fact that he averages better than Virat Kohli for the last three years has left fans in shock. This also vividly shows the massive dip in Kohli’s form.

This tweet by the Australian channel didn’t go down well with Indian fans who then shot back strongly.

C’mon @7Cricket ,Don’t be stupid… Don’t compare Goat with the Donkey… @imVkohli is a legend…

Former India opener Wasim Jaffer, who is well-known for his witty tweets, slammed back this comparison in his own style. Jaffer quoted the tweet by reflecting on the ODI batting averages of Indian pacer Navdeep Saini and Aussie batting stalwart Steve Smith.

It turns out that Saini, who has played 8 ODIs so far and scored 107 runs in 5 innings but has been dismissed only twice, has a batting average of 53.5! On the other hand, Steve Smith averages 43.34 in 128 ODIs. Jaffer’s tweet went viral instantly and has gained over 50,000 likes.

ODI Career batting average:
Navdeep Saini: 53.50
Steve Smith: 43.34 ? https://t.co/1PrcZ0HkDf

Virat Kohli’s drought of a three-figure score has been in heavy discussion every time he comes out to bat. The right-hander has now gone over two years without an international century, the last one coming in November 2019.
