Lesser Known Facts About Akash Singh, CSK’s Replacement Of Mukesh Choudhary

The Chennai Super Kings have signed left-arm seamer Akash Singh as the replacement for the injured Mukesh Choudhary.

CSK’s Mukesh has been ruled out of IPL 2023 due to a back injury. The franchise has roped in Nagaland’s left-arm speedster Akash Singh as a replacement.

Choudhary was one of the bright spots for CSK in their rather disappointing IPL 2022 campaign where they finished 9th in the 10-team tournament, picking up 16 wickets in 13 games.

Here are some facts about Akash Singh who has joined CSK as the replacement of Mukesh Choudhary

Born in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, he is a 20-year-old left-arm fast bowler who plays domestic cricket for Nagaland. He is known for his rapid pace and the ability to get generous amount of swing with the new ball.

Akash was part of the India Under-19 team that finished as the runners-up in the 2020 U-19 World Cup, and made a good impression then.

That led to Rajasthan Royals picking Akash up in the IPL 2020 auction for INR 20 lakh. He was benched for the entire 2020 season, and played in only one match in IPL 2021, returning with figures of 0/39 in his 4 overs vs Chennai Super Kings.

Akash went unsold in the IPL 2022 mega-auction and Indian Premier League 2023 mini-auction before CSK signed him up as the replacement for Choudhary.

He made his T20 debut for Rajasthan in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2019. But, because of not getting many chances in Rajasthan, he was moved to Nagaland to ply his trade in domestic cricket and played in all three formats in the 2022/23 domestic season.

Talking about his bowling record, he has decent numbers in domestic cricket: 10 wickets in 5 first-class matches, 14 wickets in 9 List-A games, and 7 wickets in 9 T20 matches.
