South Africa veteran batter Faf du Plessis opened up about the potential participation of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the T20 World Cup 2024. He expressed that every player in the game aspires to win the trophy, and both Indian cricket legends would likely share that desire.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli taking part in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 has become a significant topic of discussion in Indian cricket. The chances of these two stalwarts participating in the World Cup seem unlikely, considering they haven’t played in T20Is since the previous T20 World Cup.
Instead, several young players have been given opportunities and made the most of them. Speculations abound about whether Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will participate, with questions about the fairness to the young players who have been actively playing for the past year.
Faf du Plessis Feels Virat Kohli Will Play T20 World Cup 2024
Recently, a few reports indicated that Virat Kohli might not be in the plans for the upcoming tournament. The reports suggest that the young Ishan Kishan will replace Virat Kohli as the new number 3 of team India in the T20I format.
In an interview with NDTV, Faf du Plessis was asked about the possibility of Virat Kohli playing in the T20 World Cup 2024, especially considering reports that Rohit Sharma will lead the team. Responding to this, Irfan Pathan mentioned that the tournament is approaching, and he believes the Indian cricket legend will be a part of the competition. He said:
“Yeah, I think so. Certainly, if you look at the staging right now. The T20 World Cup is not far away. So it feels like everything in the reach. If you talk about the next 50-over World Cup, that’s where players will go ‘that’s too far away’ and maybe that’s something I don’t see them playing that.”
Furthermore, Faf mentioned that he knows Virat very well and believes he wouldn’t want to miss the opportunity to win the T20 World Cup 2024. He also expressed that Rohit Sharma would be eager to play in the tournament as well. He added:
“But knowing Virat very well, he wouldn’t want to miss out on the opportunity of the T20 World Cup, to get the trophy. That’s why we play the game, he was so close this time around. Rohit would be no different, I thought they both were excellent at home and they would want to make sure that they are geared up.”
