Faf du Plessis Revealed The Darkest Moment Of His Career: South Africa has always been one of the strongest teams. Though time and again they have attained the No.1 rankings in the three formats of the game, however, they still haven’t managed to leave a mark with their performance when it comes to global ICC events.

Recently, the South African skipper Faf du Plessis recalled an incident when he and his wife were targeted by some people on social media. The incident took place when South Africa lost to New Zealand by 49 runs in the 2011 World Cup quarter-final, ending their hopes for winning the cup.

Chasing a target of 222, Proteas were bundled out for 172 runs. Though the team had 40 balls left but lost all the wickets. Talking about the infamous World Cup exit, the South African skipper revealed how after the team lost the game, he and his wife were greeted with death threats. He revealed:

“I received death threats after that [match]. My wife received death threats. We turned on social media and we were blown away. It became very personal.”

“There were some very offensive things said that I won’t repeat. It makes you introverted towards people and you put a shield up.”

He added:

“All players go through this and it forces us to keep our circles very small. It’s why I’ve worked so hard on creating a safe space within our camp,” the veteran cricketer added.

Talking about the World Cup 2011, team India won the world cup defeating Sri Lanka at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. MS Dhoni was named as the Man of the Match for his stunning performance of 91*. Yuvraj Singh was named as the Man of the Tournament as he amassed 362 runs and picked 15 wickets.
