25-year-old Madhya Pradesh fast bowler Avesh Khan made his India T20I debut on Sunday night in Kolkata against the West Indies in the 3rd T20I of the series. Known for his express pace and hard lengths, Avesh Khan was given his debut India cap by senior pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who has been rested from the game.
Avesh has taken giant strides in the past year. He was brilliant for the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2021, helping the side through to the playoffs. Last IPL season, the right-arm speedster snared 24 wickets in 16 games, while conceding at an economy of 7.38, finishing as the second-highest wicket-taker. On 4 different occasions in IPL 2021, Avesh took 3 wickets in a game.
In the four previous seasons before last year, Avesh had played 9 matches, taking 5 wickets. What stood out in the IPL last season was his lengths – length, hard length, and short – coupled with his high pace that troubled even the best of the batters.
Upon receiving his India cap from Bhuvneshwar, Avesh Khan was all smiles. He was congratulated by everyone in the camp.

Overall in T20s, Avesh has taken 65 wickets in 48 matches at an average of 21. His numbers in first-class cricket are brilliant: 100 wickets in 27 matches at 23.42, with 4 five-wicket hauls, and one 10-wicket match haul. The Indore-born pacer also made it into India’s Test squad last year in England.
Avesh was recently purchased for a hefty amount of 10 crore by Lucknow Super Giants at the IPL 2022 mega-auction.
Fans were happy to see Avesh Khan made his India debut on Sunday. Netizens showered him with congratulatory and good luck wishes.
Elated for Avesh Khan – it’s been a while coming and he’s someone we have to look at seriously for the WC. A hit the deck bowler who cranks it up and can bowl at all phases of the innings is a must in Australia – hoping he goes well! #INDvWI
