Fans React Hilariously To Reports Of Sourav Ganguly Becoming The New ICC Chairman

Former India captain and the current BCCI President Sourav Ganguly is likely to enter a new foray into cricket administration as he has now emerged as a strong contender to become the next ICC Chairman!!

The ICC has approved the process to elect the next chairman in November in the latest meeting in Birmingham, where it was concluded that Greg Barclay, the current ICC Chairman, will be ending his tenure this year.

The selection of the new ICC Chairman will be decided by a simple majority election who will be in the office for a two-year term between December 1, 2022, to November 30, 2024.

Renowned publication Sportstar has reported that Ganguly, who took over as the BCCI President back in October 2019, is the lead contender to grab this post at the ICC as Ganguly could get major backing from other voters.

‘With Barclay’s term ending, there is strong speculation that Sourav Ganguly could emerge as one of the strong contenders for the next chair of the ICC as several countries may back him, however, sources in the BCCI indicated that “it’s too early” to come to any conclusion,’ the report said.

But, it also added that the decision of the Supreme Court to BCCI’s plea requesting several amendments to its constitution, including the cooling-off period for Ganguly and BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, will have a major impact on Ganguly’s future.

‘A lot will depend on the verdict by the Supreme Court on the cooling-off period of the BCCI president and the secretary. The bench headed by Chief Justice N.V. Ramana is scheduled to hear the matter on Thursday and the Board insiders feel that depending on the Supreme Court’s verdict, Ganguly’s future could be decided,’ it further read.

Ganguly’s tenure as BCCI’s boss has been bitter-sweet: while the Indian Test team attained greatness and the board bagged an unprecedented IPL rights deal, there have been a few shocking controversies as well with Ganguly and Shah at the helm.

Fans reacted vociferously to the news of Sourav Ganguly being likely to take over as the next ICC Chairman.

A section of netizens even predicted that cricket in nations other than the Big Three – which are India, England and Australia – would be severely hampered if Ganguly gets the position in the ICC.
