It was quite a surprising couple of days for MS Dhoni fans as the former India skipper launched Oreo, ‘for the first time in India, again’ while creating a hype around the announcement.
On Saturday, Dhoni made a rare social media appearance when he announced that he will be going live on Facebook on Sunday afternoon to share “some exciting news” with his fans. This was very unlike Dhoni who seldom makes any such announcements; normally, he’d just take everyone by surprise with his unforeseen decisions, on and off the field.
Fans pondered whether Dhoni will announce his retirement from the IPL – which was unlikely as he’d already committed to playing in the next year’s tournament – or whether like last year, he will join Team India as a mentor for the T20 World Cup 2022 next month in Australia.
As it turned out, dampening the high spirits of the fans – this was just an advertisement antic for renowned biscuit brand Oreo, who for some reason said they were launching their product “again” in India.
In quite an amusing event, the press conference was staged with actors and not journalists who danced to the tunes MS Dhoni played to them. Dhoni weirdly made a connection between Oreo first launch in India back in 2011 and India’s 2011 World Cup win, and said that Men In Blue will win the World Cup again this year as the Oreo is being launched “for the first time in India, again”.
