The names of the retained and released players were announced by all the franchises as everybody is looking forward to the IPL 2021 Auction. A few teams have released some of their big players as they are looking to revamp their squad even though it is going to be just a Mini IPL Auction. Rajasthan Royals have released Steve Smith, Royal Challengers Bangalore have released Chris Morris and Kings XI Punjab have released the likes of Glenn Maxwell and Mujeeb Ur Rahman.
Mujeeb had a great IPL Season in 2018 and was in and out of the team in 2019. In 2020, he was injured when the IPL started, and then he was dropped after a couple of poor games. He had a great BBL season and so it is a huge surprise to see a mystery spinner like Mujeeb Ur Rahman being released. Some teams would be happy about this decision as they get an option to buy him in the Auction. So, let’s have a look at four teams that should target Mujeeb Ur Rahman in IPL 2021 Auction.
4. Royal Challengers Bangalore

Royal Challengers Bangalore has released some big overseas players like Chris Morris, Aaron Finch, and Moeen Ali. RCB has good Indian spinners in Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar, but they can add to their overseas spin reserves. They have an overseas pacer Kane Richardson, and they have traded Daniel Sams from Delhi Capitals.
One better overseas spinner and this could be a well-balanced bowling attack. Mujeeb Ur Rahman would be the perfect candidate for the role. Mujeeb would like to team up with Chahal and Sundar, and it could turn out to be a lethal combination. RCB should target for Mujeeb in the upcoming IPL auction.
3. Rajasthan Royals
Rajasthan Royals have some good Indian spinners in Shreyas Gopal and Rahul Tewatia but both of them are leg-spinners. Jofra Archer was absolutely brilliant in the last IPL season, but nobody was supporting him. RR needs a solid bowler who can support Archer which will help to create pressure from both ends.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman is a high-quality spinner who can bring variety to their attack. He is quite different from the normal leg-spinners as he has 4-5 variations up his sleeve. RR has released three overseas players and hence they should target an overseas spinner who could win them games in all conditions.
2. Delhi Capitals
Delhi Capitals have released one of their overseas spinners in Sandeep Lamichanne. DC has a leg-spinner in Amit Mishra. They even have an off-spinner – R Ashwin and a left-arm spinner – Axar Patel. The only variety of spin bowling that is missing is a mystery spinner. Mujeeb Ur Rahman is the mystery spinner for Delhi Capitals.
Mujeeb has worked with R Ashwin and Axar Patel in Kings XI Punjab and that combination had worked pretty well in the first half of the tournament. If the IPL is going to be played in India, the pitch at Kotla is a slow one which will help spinners and so DC should try and get Mujeeb from the Auction.
1. Mumbai Indians
Mumbai Indians have released a lot of overseas players and every year they buy one special player in the Auction. MI has an overseas pacer – Trent Boult and might buy another one in the Auction but the only department which is a bit weak for MI is the spin department.
The likes of Krunal Pandya and Rahul Chahar have done well, but they are not world-class spinners. Mujeeb is that world-class spinner who can strengthen the spin department. It would be a great combination and MI fans would love to see Mujeeb in their team. MI would have planned something and this might be one of their plans.
